In the days before the Skye Bridge was completed in 1995, leafleting visitors was an easy task. A brilliant entrepreneur collated loose collections of paper advertising from contributing businesses on the Isle of Skye and handed them to vehicles as they waited for the Skye Ferry in Kyleakin. It was genius marketing and a truly cost-effective means of targeting exactly the right potential customers. It became more complicated once the bridge opened but when the tolls were stopped in 2004, it was impossible, and the leaflet distributor retired. Things became messy and very expensive. As a small business we fielded dozens of cold calls from advertising companies offering their services in a myriad of publications, most of which we had never heard of. The worst thing was that once we had decided on where to spend our advertising budget, we had no way of monitoring the response. We were shooting blind. Then in 2009 it all changed. Landmark Press began a professional, streamlined, and cost-effective leaflet distribution service. Our advertising budget reduced by more than 65% and the business began to grow. With the expert advice and friendly ongoing customer service Landmark offered, we were able to fine-tune our advertising and make it even more efficient. For the first time we felt like we had partners in business rather than just being customers. Landmark wanted our business to grow and helped us achieve our goals. Now, after 13 years of working with Landmark Press, we confidently say a very firm ‘No thank you’ to any cold calls offering us space in their publication.
